In this particular terraced house, a requirement of the development plan was implemented, which stipulates the greening of flat roofs. After the building was constructed, the roof was planted with hardy sedum plants by a specialist company. The surrounding upstand with a height of five centimetres is perfectly adequate for the necessary layer structure. A resistant roofing membrane serves as a waterproofing base, over which a special root protection is laid before the actual greening takes place. This construction not only protects the roof structure, but also creates a valuable habitat for flora and fauna on the flat roof.
In addition to the ecological advantages, green roofs offer considerable functional added value for the use of garden sheds. The plant layer acts as natural insulation, effectively shielding the building from direct sunlight. This helps to prevent extreme temperature spikes, especially in the summer months, resulting in a noticeable cooling effect inside the building. This protects the items stored in the garden shed, as they are exposed to lower thermal stress. The roof design thus combines sustainability aspects with improved protection for the entire inventory and contributes to the long service life of the structure.
