Sideboard FAQ

Product & equipment

  • What colours is the sideboard available in?

Our sideboards are available as standard in seven selected colours. These standard colours have proven themselves in practice and are particularly popular: black, white, medium grey, anthracite, Tuscany, steel grey and silver grey.

In addition, you have the option of choosing from the complete Trespa® colour palette . This includes an almost unlimited variety of surfaces: from modern plain decors and natural wood and stone decors to multi-coloured and metallic surfaces. This allows us to individually adapt sideboards to your architectural ideas and your colour concept.

If you have a special colour request please contact us directly. As Trespa® does not work according to the RAL system, we recommend that you let us know your desired RAL shade or a reference colour. We will then select suitable samples from the Trespa® collection and send you a pre-selected colour selection for testing.

In order to be able to assess the effect of the surfaces in real life, you can order HPL colour samples free of charge at any time via the website. We will deliver these to your home to help you make your decision. Please request colour samples that are not included in our standard colours via our contact form.

  • Which HPL panels are used and how thick are they?

The panels used are made of 13 mm thick Trespa® Meteon® HPL, which is recognised worldwide as the highest quality HPL panel on the market. Trespa® impresses with its particularly dense, homogeneous material structure, which is pressed under high pressure and at high temperatures. The result is a sheet that is extremely weather-resistant, UV-stable, colourfast and scratch-resistant. Even when exposed to strong sunlight, frost, rain or salty air, the surface remains permanently dimensionally stable and retains its colour intensity for decades. These properties make Trespa® the first choice for high-quality outdoor furniture.

  • Are the doors divided in height?

No, the doors consist of a continuous Trespa® panel. The visible line is merely a design joint – the top approx. 2 mm of the surface is milled off. This creates the visual impression of a division without compromising the stability or tightness of the door.

  • Can the sideboard also be ordered without cross joints?

Yes, the sideboard can also be manufactured without the visual transverse joints on request. In this case, the front surface remains completely smooth and is made from a continuous Trespa® panel without milled design joints.

  • What accessories are available for the sideboard?

Optional drawers, broom holders and additional height-adjustable shelves are available.

  • What material are the shelves made of and what is their load-bearing capacity?

The shelves are made of 13 mm Trespa HPL and can be loaded with up to 50 kg per shelf.

The shelves are made of 13 mm Trespa HPL and can be loaded with up to 50 kg per shelf.

  • How many shelves are included as standard?

One wide (second) compartment contains 2 height-adjustable shelves, one narrow (single) compartment contains 1 height-adjustable shelf.

  • What are the consequences of a scratch on the HPL surface?

Scratches are visible, but do not affect the function or weather resistance of the material.

  • Can I also place heavy objects such as a barbecue on my sideboard?

Yes, this is possible. However, we recommend using an underlay to avoid scratches.

  • Does the sideboard have to be covered?

A canopy is not necessary, but can extend the service life of optical surfaces.

  • Is the sideboard waterproof?

The sideboard is splash-proof. The doors, lid and base are fitted with seals. In extreme weather, a small amount of water may penetrate in rare cases, which dries quickly due to the ventilation.

  • Is the sideboard ventilated?

Yes, ventilation grilles with integrated insect screens are installed in the floor.

  • Can the position of the compartments be freely selected?

Yes, the position of the fans can be freely selected.

  • Can the height of the drawer in the compartment be determined?

Yes, it can be placed at the top, centre or bottom.

  • How high is the built-in standard drawer?

    The height is 15 cm.

  • Can customised drawer heights be ordered?

Yes, drawer handles can be ordered to size.

  • Can the centre panel be recessed to insert long items such as cushions?

Yes, there is only a margin of approx. 8 cm on all sides.

  • What is the maximum door width?

The door width is 65 cm. This results in a maximum total width of 130 cm for a second compartment. Wider doors are not possible for weight reasons.

  • Are sliding doors possible?

No, as they impair splash protection and can warp in strong sunlight.

  • Can I also order my sideboard without a base?

Theoretically yes, but we advise against this as it significantly reduces stability.

  • How heavy is the sideboard?

Depending on size, between 60 and 250 kg.

  • What is the maximum height?

The maximum height is 120 cm.

  • What is the maximum depth?

The maximum depth is 120 cm - deeper sideboards are difficult to operate in practice.

  • What is the maximum width?

The maximum width is 300 cm.

  • Are cut-outs possible?

    Yes, according to customer requirements.

  • Is the sideboard storm-proof?

Yes, thanks to storm-proof tip-on fittings.

  • Are there seawater-resistant locks?

Yes, we can install seawater-resistant Abus locks.

  • Can the sideboard be placed on castors?

Yes, in principle it is possible to mount the sideboard on castors. However, we do not recommend this, as the sideboard must stand exactly in the water at the installation site so that the doors open and close properly. Precise height adjustment is not possible with castors. They are therefore only suitable for absolutely level surfaces, such as in winter gardens.

Assembly & delivery

  • What delivery options are available?

We generally differentiate between two delivery options:

    1. forwarding agent delivery (kerbside)
Delivery is by forwarding agent. The furniture is delivered fully assembled on a pallet and placed on the kerbside by the forwarding agent using a lifting hoist. Further transport or carrying to the installation site is not included. As these are external forwarders, we cannot provide any binding information on the vehicle used.

    2. delivery by design@garten (including assembly on site)
With this option, we deliver ourselves with our team. As a rule, the delivery is made with a Sprinter or Sprinter with trailer (approx. 7.00 m long, 2.30 m wide, 2.70 m high). Please make sure that the access road is suitable for such a vehicle. Our team will not only bring the furniture to the installation site, but will also take care of theprofessional assembly and alignment.

With these two options, you can choose whether you only want delivery to the kerbside or whether you would also like to take advantage of our assembly service.

  • How is the sideboard delivered?

Sideboards up to a width of 180 cm are delivered pre-assembled.

Sideboards with a width of over 180 cm require special adjustment:

    • With a forwarder delivery the furniture is always delivered ready assembled in principle. This means that the sideboard arrives in one piece and is placed on the kerbside. This can make onward transport to narrow stairwells or higher floors very difficult. Such a delivery is therefore only possible by prior arrangement üvia our contact form.
    • For living situations in which an assembled sideboard cannot be transported, we expressly recommend delivery & assembly by Design@Garten. We deliver the furniture disassembled, carry the individual parts to the home and assemble it professionally directly at the desired location.

In this way, we ensure that even large sideboards can be placed comfortably and safely.

  • Which vehicle is used for delivery?

As a rule with a Sprinter (length 7.00 m, width 2.30 m, height 2.70 m). Please ensure that the access road is suitable.

  • What are the requirements for the installation site?

Maximum height difference or slope of 2 cm and a firm, stable surface.

Care & maintenance

  • How do you maintain Trespa®/HPL or do you have to maintain it at all?

Trespa® HPL is very easy to clean. Dirt can be removed with water, mild detergent and a soft cloth.

  • Annual check - which components should be checked?

Check fittings and seals for tight fit and integrity.

  • Are there any items that should not be stored?

Yes, chlorine or strong chemical substances can attack the coatings.

  • Should cushions be removed in winter?

Yes, due to the high humidity in winter and the associated risk of mould.

Order & Service

  • How does the ordering process for a sideboard work?

For customised products or special requirements, you will first receive a consultation, then an offer and an approval drawing. After your approval, we start production. Standard models can also be ordered directly from our online shop.

  • How much does a sideboard cost?

The price depends on the size, features and choice of material. Current prices and the option to order a sideboard directly online can be found in the online shop or on request using the contact form.

  • How long does it take the design@garten team to assemble a sideboard on delivery?

The assembly time of a sideboard on site is usually 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size and model. In exceptional cases, assembly can take up to 3 hours but no longer.

Our fitters deliver the sideboard disassembled, carry the individual parts to the desired location and assemble it there professionally. Before assembly, you will receive an exact date and time slot for the arrival of our team.

You receive a 5-year guarantee on construction and panel material, 2 years on fittings. This excludes damage caused by improper use, lack of maintenance or extreme weather events.
